Mr Owen Wall FRCS (Tr & Orth)

A highly experienced leading Consultant Knee Surgeon at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital and Spire Leeds Hospital. Mr Wall is from a sporting background in endurance sports (running, cycling, triathlon) and has extensive experience in all knee surgery specialising in treating sports knee injuries working with professional sports associations across a range of sports, including football, rugby, netball, athletics, cycling and running. He has active research interests in stem cell cartilage techniques and cartilage repair.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

Mr Owen Wall was born in Broseley, Shropshire. He spent his childhood in South Wales, but now feels an adopted Yorkshireman having lived in the county since his university days. Outside of surgery, he has a passion for cycling and triathlon where he is strongly competitive at veteran level. In the winter, he likes to indulge in his main sport of skiing.


Mr Wall is married to Olivia, has two children and a dog and enjoys a busy family life spending his time showing them the wonders of the great Yorkshire countryside, encouraging them to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.

TRAINING & EXPERTISE

Mr Owen Wall studied medicine at the University of Leeds, obtaining an intercalated Bachelor of Science degree (with honours) in 1996 and then graduating with a further honours degree in medicine and surgery in 1998. He then gained a place on the Yorkshire School of Surgery basic surgical training programme and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (London) in 2002. As a Specialist Registrar, his higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery was also completed within the Yorkshire region. Mr Wall passed his Fellowship exams in 2008 and was added to the GMC Specialist Register in 2010.


Mr Wall then undertook post-accreditation fellowship training in all aspects of knee surgery (including keyhole surgery) by completing two prestigious fellowship periods. The first was a 6 month fellowship in Harrogate, the second was a prestigious national fellowship for 16 months at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. He undertook a locum consultant post in Bradford before being appointed as a Consultant trauma and knee surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in September 2014.


Mr Wall is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds and undertakes academic teaching of undergraduate medical students and post-graduate orthopaedic trainees. He is faculty member on many national and regional orthopaedic courses and is also involved in the development of techniques for cartilage regeneration utilising the latest stem cell based research in conjunction with the University of Leeds Bioengineering department. His research work has been presented at international meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.

He is an expert in all keyhole surgery techniques (arthroscopic knee surgery), ligament repair & reconstruction (e.g. cruciate ligaments), partial and total knee replacement, re-alignment osteotomy, multi-ligament reconstruction & revision ACL reconstruction. Mr Wall also offers arthroscopic regenerative techniques for cartilage damage repair and meniscal cartilage repair utilising the latest research in stem-cell technology.
